Illustrations that have been converted from Bible Illustrator 3 for use with SermonBuilder 4.0

Since 1997, we have maintained a set of illustrations for anyone to download to use with Bible Illustrator 2 and 3. With the conversion utility, you can convert each of these files for use with SermonBuilder 4.0. If you have a broadband internet connection, you can download the file that we have already converted. (The file is over 26 MB, so don't attempt it with a dialup connection.) This file doesn't contain all of the illustrations we have available on our web site because two of the files caused the conversion utility to crash. The file available below includes over 11,000 illustrations, and is ready to go if you follow these instructions step-by-step.

PLEASE NOTE: In order for this downloaded file to work, you must follow these instructions to the letter. If you're not confortable editing configuration files, you may be better off downloading the conversion utility mentioned above, and running the conversion yourself.

  1. These instructions depend on you having already installed SermonBuilder 4.0 to the default location. Specifically, that is this folder:

C:\Program Files\QuickVerse Sermon Builder 4

If you installed SermonBuilder to a different folder, it may still be possible to download and use our file of illustrations, but we don't provide instructions for doing this. You're on your own!

  1. Download our file of converted illustrations, making sure to remember where you saved it on your hard drive. NOTE: This file is 26.5 MB in size, so it'll take a while. On our cable connection it only takes 9 minutes, but would take over an hour on a dialup connection -- and that's assuming you have a totally clean, noise-free phone line. A typical dialup connection could take two hours or longer.
  2. Extract the ZIPped file. The file should automatically unzip to the proper location, but if you're prompted to enter a destination for the files, they need to go in this folder:

C:\Program Files\QuickVerse Sermon Builder 4\QVDatabase

  1. In Windows Explorer (or My Computer), find this file: C:\Program Files\QuickVerse Sermon Builder 4\library.xml. Click the right mouse button on this file and select Open or Open With.
    1. Open: If your menu doesn't have an Open With option, click Open. When the next dialog comes up, Windows will ask you what you want to do. Select the option Select program from a list, and click OK. Scroll down the list until you see WordPad. (Notepad will do it, but the formatting is better in WordPad, and the file will be easier for you to read.) Click OK. Continue with step 5.
    2. Open With: Hover the mouse pointer over Open With until the list opens up. If you see WordPad listed there, click on it. If it's not listed, click Choose Program. Scroll down the list until you see WordPad. (Notepad will do it, but the formatting is better in WordPad, and the file will be easier for you to read.) Click OK.
  2. Click on this link, which will open up in a new browser tab or window: LibraryUpdate.txt. Select all the text on the page (Ctrl + A, or Edit > Select All), which should look similar to what's shown below. (The screen shot belot shows a completely different file, so the "captions" will have different titles.) Copy this selected text to the clipboard (Ctrl + C, or Edit > Copy).
  3. Switch to the file library.xml from steps 2-4 above. At the end of the file, insert an additional line immediately above the line </qvlibrary>. See screen shot below.

  1. Make sure your cursor is flashing at the beginning of the newly-inserted line, and paste in the text you copied in step 5 (Ctrl + V, or Edit > Paste).
  2. Save the file library.xml. When you next open SermonBuilder, you should see a new category of books in the table of contents. The new category is titled "Books from www.fbg-church.org", and includes all the illustration in the file you downloaded in step 2 above.
  3. Note that in the Table of Contents pane of the added illustration books, it will say Contents of "". Below that, there will be hyperlinked alphabet characters, but clicking on the hyperlinks has no effect. The contents pane should have the name of the book, but so far I haven't figured out if there's a way to do that. I do know that if you add a "User Book", the behavior is the same, so evidently there's no way to add the title over there.

  1. To access these added illustrations once you open a book, you must click on the + next to the appropriate alphabet character, and continue clicking on the + symbols on subsequent subcategories. When you get down to the illustration level, the icon will change from the appearance of a book to the appearance of a document, as shown below.
